    Flash Museum (Earth-1: Pre-Crisis)

Who'd look for The Flash under his own museum?

The S.T.A.R. Labs Museum, better known as the Flash Museum by 2049, was the Central City headquarters of the research organization S.T.A.R. Labs and the base of operations of Team Flash. The facility is located north of the Western Avenue Bridge of the Gardener River.

    History[edit | hide | hide all]

    Creation[edit | hide]

After Eobard Thawne murdered Harrison Wells and Tess Morgan, he took the former's appearance and masquerade as him. He then founded S.T.A.R. Labs, creating the building as the major laboratory of the organization.[1]

    Particle Accelerator Explosion[edit | hide]

    The Particle Accelerator Explosion

On December 11, 2013, the particle accelerator in the facility exploded and exposed countless individuals with Dark Matter, turning them into Metahumans.[2]

Nine months later, Barry Allen woke up from a coma caused by a lightning strike during the explosion and gained superhuman speed. He then became the vigilante, The Flash, and used the facility as a base of operations for his team.[2]

    Blackout[edit | hide]

    Blackout attacks

Soon after beginning their vigilantism, Farooq Gibran attacked the building in hopes of seeking revenge against Harrison Wells. His attack culminated at the parking lot of the building, where he overloaded and died.[3]

The Man in the Yellow Suit[edit | hide]

    The Reverse-Flash is trapped

In 2015, in an attempt to capture the Reverse-Flash, Allen lured him to the basement of S.T.A.R. Labs and activated the Super-Capacity Array. Unbeknownst to Team Flash, their leader, Harrison Wells, was the true Reverse-Flash and they merely captured an imposter.[4]

    Singularity[edit | hide]

The Reverse-Flash is erased out of existencd

When Team Flash decided to send Reverse-Flash back to the future, he used a Time Sphere to open a Temporal Wormhole in the pipeline. Unfortunately, Allen returned from 2000, having been told not to save his mother by his future self, and shattered the Time Sphere. A battle commenced in the pipeline and Thawne gained the upper hand until Eddie Thawne committed suicide. His suicide led to Thawne's erasure from existence and for the Temporal Gateway to go out of control. The gateway expanded itself into an inter-dimensional gateway to Earth-2 and elevated on top of Central City. Thankfully, with the joint efforts of The Flash and Firestorm, the Singularity was closed at the cost of Ronnie Raymond's sacrifice. Soon afterwards, Allen pushed everyone off the team and continued to operate as The Flash on his own.[5][6]

Six months later, Team Flash decided to ignore Allen's refusal and joined together to stop Atom-Smasher in hopes of reconnecting with Allen. Meanwhile, as the only occupant of S.T.A.R. Labs, Allen was given a video recording of Thawne (as Wells) admitting to the murder of Nora Allen and the transfer of ownership of S.T.A.R. Labs to Allen. Team Flash also regrouped with Cisco Ramon upgrading the security system of the building. The system was immediately challenged when Jay Garrick broke into the building to warn them about Zoom, a speedster serial killer.[6]

    Enter Zoom[edit | hide]

Team Flash ultimately faced Zoom, though Allen was not strong enough to thwart his attacks. As a result, Allen's back was broken and S.T.A.R. Labs was severely damaged. During their defense against Zoom, multiple atrocious acts occurred in the building, including Zoom's threat against Harry Wells and the execution of Jay Garrick.[7][8][9] Despite this, there were also multiple breakthroughs, including the development of the Velocity Serums and Allen's successful trip back to 2014.[10][11]

    Zoom steals The Flash's speed

Eventually, Allen lured Zoom to S.T.A.R. Labs and forced him to face his trauma of his parents. Zoom was ultimately able to break free and threatened Team Flash to give him Allen's organic speed. With no other options but to comply, Harry Wells developed a device to transfer Allen's speed to Zoom, essentially beginning Zoom's Metapocalypse.[7]

Second Particle Accelerator Explosion[edit | hide]

    The Second Particle Accelerator Explosion

In an attempt to restore Allen's speed, Team Flash recreated the particle accelerator explosion with the exact combination of chemicals that gave Allen his super speed. However, the experiment partially failed when Allen was sucked into the Speed Force and evaporating his body. Thankfully, Allen was rescued by Iris West and Cisco Ramon. During the explosion, a wave of Dark Matter also expanded across the building, giving Jesse Wells her superhuman speed.[12]

    Post-Flashpoint[edit | hide]

Immediately after the defeat of Zoom, Allen travelled back to 2000 and saved his mother, creating an alternate timeline. Knowing that the timeline slowly took away Allen's speed and memories of his life as The Flash, Allen decided to listen to Thawne's advice and restore the timeline as it is. Contrary to his beliefs, the timeline remained fractured, slight adjustments to S.T.A.R. Labs was the result of such fractures. The adjustments include the existence of Caitlin Snow's laboratory and the creation of the Speed Lab.[13]

    S.T.A.R. Labs Museum[edit | hide]

    S.T.A.R. Labs Museum opens

When HR Wells joined the team, he did not possess any scientific knowledge to assist the team. However, he was able to provide a mean for the team to gain funding for their operations by rebranding the building as S.T.A.R. Labs Museum. The museum included scientific research results of the organization and allowed children of Central City to expand their studies in science and technology-related fields.[14]

    Wrath of Savitar[edit | hide]

During their final attempts to stop the execution of Iris West, Savitar masqueraded as Barry Allen and returned to S.T.A.R. Labs, tricking HR Wells into exposing West's location on Earth-2. Savitar then travelled to Earth-2 to capture West and brought her to Infantino Street, her site of execution. After executing West, Wells switched off his transmogrification device and revealed that he replaced West's in the execution, feeling guilty for his mistake at S.T.A.R. Labs. This change in the timeline allowed Savitar to be easily defeated, though at the cost of Allen returning to the Speed Force. With Allen gone and Wells' death, Team Flash operated with Kid Flash and Vibe as the main vigilantes, and closed down S.T.A.R. Labs Museum.[15][16][17]

As a part of Clifford DeVoe's path to Enlightenment, Allen was soon released from the Speed Force and provided the opportunity for Dark Matter release on Bus 405.[17]

    Nazi Invasion[edit | hide]

Coincidental to the West-Allen wedding, Nazis from Earth-X began their invasion on Earth-1. When the heroes tried to ambush the New Reichsmen, Dark Arrow led an ambush and siege of the building. Heroes like Vibe, Killer Frost, Harry Wells, Heat Wave, Black Canary, Mister Terrific and Wild Dog were all captured and imprisoned in the pipeline. Iris West-Allen and Felicity Smoak were the only two not captured, and was able to alert the Legends of Tomorrow before being captured as well.[18][19]

    The heroes retake S.T.A.R. Labs

The Nazis later took S.T.A.R. Labs as their base of operations, with Thawne trying to operate on Kara Danvers. Before he succeeded, the Atom enlarged himself and knocked Thawne unconscious, leading the Legends to retake the building. Steel then freed those imprisoned in the pipeline and started leading them to the roof. They were then faced with Metallo and more Nazi forces. Surprisingly, the heroes that were abducted to Earth-X returned and destroyed Metallo together. The heroes soon retreated to the Waverider and prepared their battle against the Nazis.[19][20]

    Enlightenment[edit | hide]

Team Flash's investigation of Clifford DeVoe resumed after the defeat of Nazis. The investigation revealed DeVoe's involvement in Allen's return and his plans to re-educate the planet. DeVoe later attacked S.T.A.R. Labs, Team Flash failing to stop DeVoe from hijacking Ralph Dibny's body in the process. Eventually, on the night of Enlightenment, Allen entered DeVoe's mind to restore Dibny, killing DeVoe and seemingly stopping the reeducation from occurring. The Enlightenment finally came to an end when Marlize DeVoe destroyed a copy of DeVoe's consciousness, freeing millions from losing their intelligence.[21][22]

    Two Cicadas[edit | hide]

    Cicada II attacks S.T.A.R. Labs

Team Flash later came into conflict with serial killer Cicada, and ultimately able to convince him to take the Metahuman Cure. However, another Cicada arrived and caused severe damage to the building, killing Dr. Ambres in the process and capturing Orlin Dwyer. The Cicada was revealed to be Dwyer's niece, Grace Gibbons, from the future.[23]

    Babel Protocol[edit | hide]

    Babel Protocol in action

Months after Cicada's defeat, Allen was infected by Ramsey Rosso and turned against Team Flash. To ensure their safety, Ramon initiated Babel Protocol, a system designed to keep out rogue speedsters. Allen later regained his control over his body, right before the Crisis began]]. To count down Allen's prophesied demise, Team Flash held a final meeting in the lounge, with skies turning red the moment Earth enters December 10, 2019.[24][25]

Crisis on Infinite Earths[edit | hide]

On December 10, 2019, along with the rest of Earth-1, the S.T.A.R. Labs building was destroyed in a wave of Antimatter.[26]

    The Shrinking Bomb is created

When heroes returned to a new world, merged from multiple universes to form Earth-Prime, they realized that the Anti-Monitor was not defeated by the Paragons. Lance led the heroes of Earth-Prime, ordering Ray Palmer, Nash Wells and Ryan Choi to continue their work to build a Shrinking Bomb and sending Mick Rory to protect them. As the heroes expected, Shadow Demons attacked the building, only to be stopped by Rory, Frost and Black Lightning. The defeat of the Anti-Monitor was later publicized and the country had a moment of silence for the death of Oliver Queen, Allen and Snow doing so at the S.T.A.R. Labs cortex.[27]

    Artificial Speed Force[edit | hide]

    Nash Wells sacrifices himself

When the Speed Force was killed during the events of the Crisis, Allen created the Artificial Speed Force in the Speed Lab.[28] When the Artificial Speed Force was activated with the sacrifice of Nash Wells, it took away Allen's emotions and significantly heightened his intelligence. Knowing that this would affect his methods to rescue Iris West-Allen from the Mirrorverse, Ramon and Frost attempted to destroy the machine. Allen was determined to protect the machine and fought his teammates. Though with West-Allen's return and immediately losing consciousness, Allen reverted to his empathetic side and destroyed the machine.[29]

Birth of the Forces[edit | hide]

When the Speed Force was killed, Allen, using a spark of the Speed Force in Iris West-Allen's body, recreated the Force of Nature, along with the Strength Force, the Still Force and the Sage Force.[30]

Birth of the Forces of Nature

A future Allen and Timeless Wells later returned to the day and tried to kill the forces before their birth. Allen soon regretted his decision when he realized he was the "parent" of the forces, and re-released the particles to the air.[31]

    Godspeed Attack[edit | hide]

    Godspeeds attack

In 2021, an army of Godspeed clones attacked Central City. When Allen tried to face them, he was immediately outmatched and retreated to the building. Before the Godspeeds were able to follow him into the building, Chester P. Runk was able to activate Babel Protocol. Despite this, the Godspeeds were capable of creating powerful sonic blasts to the forcefields, ultimately deactivating the defense system. With the joint effort of Frost and Chillblaine, the Godspeeds were halted until Runk played an interference signal that disoriented the army. Allen then took the opportunity to knock the Godspeeds unconscious and lured the remaining away from Team Flash.[32]

    Battle for Reverse-Flash[edit | hide]

Six months after the defeat of Godspeed, Despero began to target Allen for his potential destruction of Earth. When the destruction was revealed to be Allen's reversal of Eobard Thawne's Reverse Flashpoint, Despero switched his target to Thawne, taking over Mia Queen's mind to attack his building. With his defeat, Queen was freed from his control and the building remained unharmed along with the rest of the city.[33]

    Blackfire Hauntings[edit | hide]

During Deathstorm's murders, Team Flash attempted multiple experiments at S.T.A.R. Labs to trap Deathstorm. These experiments resulted in Deathstorm gaining a corporeal form as Ronnie Raymond, and for him to deceive the team.[34]

Speed Lab Time Anomaly[edit | hide]

    The time anomaly

On April 5, 2023, Allen and West-Allen were the only two present at S.T.A.R. Labs when a mold inspection took place. They soon realized that the inspectors and them were trapped in a time anomaly, forced to remain in the Speed Lab and for random objects to be displaced in the room. It was later revealed that it was the result of Lady Chronos' device. With her returned to the future, the displacements returned to their respective timelines.[35]

    Possible Future[edit | hide]

By 2049, the S.T.A.R. Labs building has been transformed into the Flash Museum, celebrating the legacy of The Flash. The museum remained operative even a hundred years after The Flash's golden era, in 2123.[35]

    Alternate Versions[edit | hide]

    Erased Timeline[edit | hide]

    Harrison Wells' concept art

In the erased timeline, Thawne never murdered Harrison Wells and Tess Morgan. Wells and Morgan co-founded S.T.A.R. Labs and brought it to success by 2020, creating the particle accelerator and granting Allen superhuman speed.[1]

    Erased Futures[edit | hide]

In an erased furue where West-Allen was murdered by Savitar, the S.T.A.R. Labs Museum was closed down and fell into disrepair by 2024, with only Allen and Ramon keeping the building operating at minimum functionality.[36]

In another erased future where Allen vanished in the Crisis, S.T.A.R. Labs operated as Flash Museum and displayed countless Flash memorabilia. The Time Vault was repurposed as a storage unit and held Allen's message to Nora West-Allen.[37]

    Doomworld[edit | hide]

    Doomworld S.T.A.R. Labs

Using the Spear of Destiny, Thawne remained the CEO of S.T.A.R. Labs. Thawne renovated the building to trap the Black Flash and created a giant burner to destroy the spear.[38]

    Elseworlds[edit | hide]

In the Elseworlds created by John Deegan, Deegan operated as Superman and used the building as his base of operations. Soon after his defeat, the building, along with multiple changes to reality, were reverted to their original forms.[39]

    Reverse Flashpoint[edit | hide]

As a result of Thawne's Reverse Flashpoint, multiple subtle changes were done to the timeline. Among the changes was Thawne's sabotage of S.T.A.R. Labs's maintenance, creating radiation leaks and unacceptable conditions for the CCDBS to demolish the building. Before they evacuated the building, Allen destroyed Gideon and activated cloaking technology per sensitive areas.[40]

    Rooms[edit | hide]

    Level 600[edit | hide]

    Cortex[edit | hide]

The cortex is where Team Flash has team briefings and communicate with The Flash in the field. The front of the cortex also includes a mannequin to hold The Flash Suit until Allen received the Flash Ring from his daughter Nora, which allows him to bring his suit with him everywhere. However, he occasionally puts the suit on the mannequin. The mannequin's display also includes a switch for the Babel Protocol to engage a force-field around S.T.A.R. Labs in case Allen goes rogue.[25]

In the Doomworld, Eobard Thawne never lost the ownership of the facility and converted the cortex into his own office with the mannequin room as a prison cell for Black Flash.[38]

In the second Elseworlds of Earth-1, John Deegan turned into Superman and converted the cortex was his command center for his organization with the former mannequin gone.[39]

    Med Lab[edit | hide]

Caitlin Snow has a medical lab with state-of-the-art technologies that allows her to run detailed testings on Metahumans and patients. In the center of the room, an advanced brain scanner is installed and is able to diagnose inter-dimensional diseases like the side effects of timeline alterations on Vibers.

In the Doomworld, Eobard Thawne never lost the ownership of the facility and converted the medical lab as part of the office.[38]

In the second Elseworlds of Earth-1, John Deegan turned into Superman and converted the Time Vault into the "fortress of solitude", and the medical lab into part of his command center.[39]

    Office[edit | hide]

The original purpose of this room was the office of "Harrison Wells". After being exposed as the Reverse-Flash, the room was altered as another part of the med lab.[6]

In the Doomworld, Eobard Thawne never lost the ownership of the facility and kept the office as part of his new one.[38]

In the second Elseworlds of Earth-1, John Deegan turned into Superman and converted the office into part of his command center.[39]

    Speed Testing Lab[edit | hide]

After Allen got his powers, Cisco Ramon made a treadmill to let Allen train.[41] After the Flashpoint, Allen resets the timeline and the treadmill was moved to the Speed Lab while the room became part of Snow's medical lab.[13]

    Basement[edit | hide]

The basement has a Forcefield Generator and was used to trap Eobard Thawne. After his successful capture, Harrison Wells (disguised by Eobard Thawne) called CCPD to lock him up. However, Thawne escaped the forcefield and killed the soldiers.[4]

After Team Flash discovered a breach in their basement, they asked Jay Garrick to build a Speed Cannon to stabilize the breach and allow them to travel to Earth-2. Soon, the basement is redesigned with a strengthened door and is repurposed for inter-dimensional travels.[42]

In the Doomworld, Eobard Thawne never lost the ownership of the facility and converted the basement as a giant burner to destroy the Spear of Destiny.[38]

    Bedroom[edit | hide]

After the final breach between Earth-1 and Earth-2 was closed, Harry Wells and his daughter Jesse were stranded on Earth-1. The team allowed them to stay in the facility and lent them a room. However, Jesse decided she should leave and see the world which left Harry alone living in the room.[43][44]

    Gym[edit | hide]

Frost trains in the gym with basic equipment.[45]

Hall of the Fallen Heroes[edit | hide]

After the death of Nash Wells, Team Flash set up a hall to remember those that sacrificed their lives for the team.[29]

    Lobby[edit | hide]

    The exterior of the lobby

Before being shut down, the facility used to hold press conferences in the lobby and allow people to visit. During HR Wells' stay on Earth-1, he drafted a plan to turn the facility into S.T.A.R. Labs Museum as a decoy for the base of operations. Wells renovated the lobby and built a flawed hologram of Cisco Ramon welcoming guests.[14]

    Lounge[edit | hide]

Despite being in the facility for 5 years, the team never found out about the lounge. Which allows Joe West to sleep in during Cecile Horton's pregnancy which annoyed West as her powers kept on tampering with his mind. When Nora arrived from 2049, she briefly lived there until Sherloque Wells' arrival forced her to move to the West-Allen Loft.[46] After nobody is in use of the lounge, the team occasionally has team briefings there, and they witnessed the start of the Crisis in it while saying goodbye to Allen.[25] On Frost's "birthday", she invited her friends for a party along with the surprised Team Flash.[47]

    Morgue[edit | hide]

The "morgue" was designed to place dead prisoners of the Pipeline. During the second particle accelerator explosion, Girder was resurrected and attacked Team Flash.[12]

    Parking Lot[edit | hide]

Despite the parking lot outside of the building, the building also includes an indoor room to park several mobile research unit. During Blackout's attack, Team Flash escaped to the parking lot and later defeated him.[3]

    Pipeline (Particle Accelerator)[edit | hide]

For more information, see the full page.

    Starchives[edit | hide]

After Allen became The Flash, the Starchives were created to store Flash related items such as destroyed suits and the Time Sphere.[48]

    Storage Closet[edit | hide]

Despite having a larger storage room, the facility also includes a storage closet with metal fences that used to store the Cold Gun.[49]

    Workshop[edit | hide]

Ramon has a workshop under Level 600 after he returned to Team Flash, and he creates different gadgets such as the Inter-Dimensional Extrapolator and his suit. When Harry Wells returned to Earth-1, Ramon and Wells often argued in the workshop. Wells also created the Thinking Cap which allowed him to assist Team Flash on strategies.[50] Inside the workshop, it has an operational Flight 2000 pinball machine which is secretly a storage device for the Velocity Serums.[48] During Sherloque Wells' stay on Earth-1, he used the computers of the workshop to decode Nora's journal.[51]

In the Doomworld, Eobard Thawne never lost the ownership of the facility and used the workshop to store the ATOM Exosuit taken from Ray Palmer.[38]

    Timeline/Reality Alterations Additional Rooms[edit | hide]

    Speed Lab[edit | hide]

After Flashpoint, Allen reset the timeline and the original design of the speed testing lab was moved to the Speed Lab after it was created. It includes an oval track for Allen and numerous speedsters to run in for training. After the Death of the Speed Force, the Speed Lab acts as a room for the Artificial Speed Force.[52][53]

    Time Vault[edit | hide]

When Eobard Thawne got stranded in the 2000/2010s, he built the facility with a secret advanced room known as the Time Vault. He added a mannequin to store his suit and the gadgets that are connected to the suit. In the interior of the room, it has a platform that can activate Gideon. However, she was later mobilized, and the Time Vault simply acts as a panic room for Team Flash.[28] Before Cisco Ramon left Central City, he upgraded the vault and transformed it into a panic room.[32]

After the team erased him out of existence (which he later returned due to time paradoxes), the vault was primarily used by Harry Wells after 3 years of being offline. A year after Wellls returned to Earth-2, the room was subsequently used by Sherloque Wells and Nora West-Allen to decode and send messages of her journal respectively.[51]

In the Doomworld, Eobard Thawne never lost the ownership of the facility and a secret room is not needed for him.[38]

In the second Elseworlds of Earth-1, John Deegan turned into Superman and converted the Time Vault as the Fortress of Solitude. According to his employee, it is where he keeps something valuable.[39]
