    Mick Rory (Earth-1: Pre-Crisis)

I think you fell in love with your dad's lighter fluid. I think you fell in love with the flames dancing around. But then you realized you couldn't control them, and you ran without waking your family. The only thing you were concerned about was your own skin.
    — Mick Rory to his younger self[src]

Mick Rory is a former pyromaniac criminal active in Central City and later reformed to be a Legend. He was nicknamed Heat Wave by Cisco Ramon due to his use of the Heat Gun during his partnership with Leonard Snart. Years later, the two were recruited by Rip Hunter to the Legends of Tomorrow, as one of its first recruits.

As a Legend, Rory slowly reformed and became a vigilante, while committing minor crimes during his missions. He also became a romantic story writer and used the pen name Rebecca Silver. The mantle was later passed onto Mona Wu, and he also left the Legends to raise his human-Necrian hybrid children with Kayla.

    Biography[edit | hide | hide all]

    Early Life[edit | hide]

Mick Rory was born to Dick Rory and an unnamed woman in Central City.[10]

    Pyro[edit | hide]

Since a young age, Rory has been obsessed and fascinated by flames, falling in love with his abusive father's lighter fluid. He eventually became an arsonist, subsequently meeting a 14-year-old Leonard Snart in juvenile detention center.[10][20][21]

In 1989, despite still being held at the juvenile detention center, Rory planned to break out and attend prom with Ali, a classmate who he had been exchanging letters with. However, he cancelled and decided not to attend.[7]

In 1990, Rory was playing with flames and accidentally set his house on fire. Shocked and scared, Rory escaped from his house without waking up his parents, surviving the fire. As firefighters arrived on the scene, Rory set by and witnessed the flames, fascinated by it.[10]

    Job Gone Wrong[edit | hide]

In 2014, Rory partnered with Leonard Snart in a crime. However, presumably due to Rory's uncontrollable obsession with flames and his impulsivity, the job went wrong and half of Rory's body was burnt in a fire. On the way to the hospital, Rory escaped from the ambulance and fled from the scene, with his injuries permanently scarring both his arms.[2][22] Since then, Rory insisted in wearing long-sleeved shirts and leather gloves to cover his scars, fearing that others would see the results of his past.[23]

Recruited by Rip Hunter[edit | hide]

In 2015, Rory, alongside Ray Palmer, Sara Lance, Martin Stein, Jefferson Jackson, Kendra Saunders, Carter Hall and Leonard Snart were recruited by Rip Hunter. They were then the founding members of the team known as the Legends of Tomorrow and defended the timeline.[11]

After their first mission, Rory slept through the night and used Rip Hunter's decorative urn as a bedpan.[24]

During the activities of hunting down Vandal Savage, he was attracted to the chaotic environment of Star City of Earth-16 in the year 2046, and he was forcibly taken away by the team. Snart then had a fight with Rory and abandoned him at an unknown point in time where the Time Masters noticed his activities at the time and recruited him as a bounty hunter known as "Chronos", before betraying the Time Masters.

Crisis on Infinite Earths[edit | hide]

During the Crisis, Rory was in Star City organizing a book signing. It was later disturbed by a giant Beebo created by Sargon. Rory was angry and shot Beebo with his Heat Gun. However, the flame was not effective. Later, the other heroes realized it was a diversion for a robbery. He was presumably given back his Earth-1 doppelgänger's memories.

After they defeated Beebo and Sargon, they realized the Anti-Monitor was alive and Rory was sent to S.T.A.R. Labs to protect the "geek team". During the battle, Rory and Frost were discussing which of them would kill the Shadow Demon, only to be assisted by Black Lightning.
