DC's Stargirl, or simply Stargirl, is a television series based on the DC Comics character, Stargirl.
The series is developed by Geoff Johns with him serving as showrunner. The first season premiered on May 18, 2020, on DC Universe and the following day on The CW. Following the conversion of DC Universe into a digital comic subscription service, the second was moved to The CW and premiered on August 10, 2021, with the name Stargirl: Summer School. The third season, titled Stargirl: Frenemies premiered on August 31, 2022, on The CW. During the airing of the third season, The CW announced that it would be the final season, and thus concluding Stargirl with 39 episodes on December 7, 2022.
Characters from Stargirl made a cameo in the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event through archive footage. Marc Guggenheim later confirmed that the series was created with the expectation to not participate in a crossover with other CW Arrowverse series. However, John Wesley Shipp, who portrayed The Flash on the 1990 Flash series and multiple characters on The Flash in the 2014 incarnation, appeared in the second season of Stargirl as Jay Garrick, reprising one of his roles from The Flash (2014).
Synopsis[edit | hide | hide all]
Stargirl follows high school sophomore Courtney Whitmore as she inspires an unlikely group of young heroes to stop the villains of the past. This new drama reimagines Stargirl and the very first superhero team, the Justice Society of America, in an unpredictable series. STARGIRL is lovingly inspired by Johns' late sister, who was killed in a plane accident.[1]
