The Crimson Comet[edit | hide]
Jay Garrick was born in Keystone City, Kansas,[8] and at some point married Joan Williams.[6] Upon becoming a Metahuman, Garrick became the vigilante known as The Flash, using his powers to travel back in time to World War II in order to fight the Nazis, before living on and off in the past for sixteen years.[2]
Justice For All[edit | hide]
Eventually, Garrick became a founding member of the Justice Society of America and fought numerous supervillains whilst on the team, including Per Degaton, whom he banished to an alternate timeline.[11]
On another occasion, The Flash and Wildcat fought The Thinker and several of his henchmen in Plateau City after he attempted to stage a bullion robbery. During this encounter, DeVoe used his thinking cap to control the minds of the responding police officers and ordered them to shoot at the heroes, but was ultimately unsuccessful in his plan to kill them as The Flash created a wall of impenetrable speed to block the bullets, which also gave Wildcat the opportunity to jump from behind the barrier and subdue DeVoe.[8]
The Devil in the Shadows[edit | hide]
After the murder of Rebecca McNider, Garrick attended her funeral alongside his fellow JSA members, Sylvester Pemberton, Ted Grant, Rex Tyler, Johnny Thunder and Pat Dugan. After greeting Dugan, he explained to the team that the entity responsible was named Eclipso and that he had been brought back from an island by an explorer named Bruce Gordon, before turning to observe an argument between Charles and Myra McNider.
Some time later, Garrick, Pemberton, Grant, and Tyler were sat around the meeting table in the JSA headquarters debating whether to kill Bruce Gordon in order to defeat Eclipso, but were unable to come to a decision, resulting in them travelling to the garage to ask Dugan's opinion on the matter. Both Garrick and Dugan attempted to reason with the others, arguing that Gordon was also a victim of Eclipso, but they were unable to convince them, as they feared for their family's safety. Despite this, Garrick refused to participate and left. After this decision, the Justice Society began to break apart, with the members drifting away from each other over time.[12]
Gather the Troops[edit | hide]
During one of his adventures throughout the timeline, Garrick travelled to the future and met Courtney Whitmore, learning that she is the new leader of the Justice Society. He later opened a breach to the JSA headquarters in 2031, destroying the meeting table and interrupting The Shade's tour in the process. He then asked him to gather the JSA to face a threat alongside him.[13]
Godspeed War[edit | hide]
Eventually, Garrick and Joan Williams travelled to Earth-Prime and began living in Keystone City, Missouri. Following the death of the Speed Force, Garrick began to require a cane to walk due to his advanced age.[6]
After forty days, Garrick's powers were restored due to increased Speed Force saturation, just in time to assist Team Flash in defeating an army of Godspeed clones that were attacking Central City. However, as soon as he was suited up, he was kidnapped by a group of the clones and taken to Zauriel Cathedral, in order to lure Impulse into a trap.
Meanwhile, the clones began to siphon Garrick's Speed Force energy until Impulse arrived, though he was immediately attacked as planned, resulting in The Flash and XS arriving to save him. Garrick then woke up and helped Barry to get Bart out of the cathedral, before Mecha-Vibe arrived to trap the clones in a synthetic entropy trap. Some time later, Garrick created a Neural Hyper-Collider to help Barry project his consciousness into August Heart's mind.[6]
Once outside of Heart's mind, Barry called in the Speed Force for backup against the Godspeed army, who then amplified the natural speed energy of everyone in the room, including restoring Garrick to his full strength. During the fight with the Godspeed army, Garrick threw his supercharged helmet at a group of the clones, but his efforts ultimately proved to be in vain, and Barry was forced to give Heart his objective, an organic Speed Force connection.
After doing so, Garrick warned Barry that it was too dangerous to face him alone due to his newly increased levels of speed, but he did so regardless. During this altercation, Bart insisted on going to help his father, but Garrick convinced him to trust that Barry knew what he was doing. After Godspeed's defeat, Garrick and Joan attended Barry and Iris West-Allen's vow renewal ceremony, during which it was suggested that they also renew their vows, to which Garrick replied that he would marry Joan again in a heartbeat.[14]

Mentoring Impulse[edit | hide]
In a possible future, Garrick became a mentor to Bart West-Allen alongside Barry and Wally West, being the only person who saw his impulsiveness as a strength rather than a weakness. For this reason, they formed a close relationship, to the point where Bart referred to him as "Uncle Jay".[6]

Fall of the Justice Society[edit | hide]
Eventually, Garrick travelled back to Earth-2 and rejoined the Justice Society, which had reformed to face their newly reconstituted arch-enemies, the Injustice Society of America. On December 24, 2010, the team were lured into a battle at an abandoned mansion, during which The Flash was killed by Icicle.[5] After the battle, his helmet was placed in a memorial at the JSA headquarters by Pat Dugan.[15] </tabber>
