“ | I don't want to hurt anybody. But if there's no other choice, if it comes down to it... I'm gonna do what we have to to protect our families. | ” |
— Rex Tyler[src]

Rex Tyler was an expert chemist who invented an hourglass that gave him superpowers for one hour per day. He used this to become the vigilante known as Hourman and a member of the Justice Society of America.
Biography[edit source]
Early Life[edit source]
Rex Tyler grew up in Connecticut, where he met Wendi Harris at some point during their childhood. The two later got married.[2]
Justice Society of America[edit source]
At some point in his adulthood, Rex invented an hourglass, which gave him various superpowers. He deliberately limited the amount of time it could be used for to one hour, as he knew how potentially addictive and tempting it could be to use it for the wrong reason. He used his invention to fight crime as the vigilante known as Hourman and later joined the Justice Society of America.[1]

The Devil in the Shadows[edit source]
Christmas Eve[edit source]
On December 24, 2010, Rex and the rest of the Justice Society were lured into a battle at an abandoned mansion by their arch-enemies, the Injustice Society of America. During the battle, he fought and almost defeated Tigress before being blasted unconscious by The Wizard.[3]
Hunting the Injustice Society[edit source]
Rex survived the battle and took it upon himself to hunt down the Injustice Society across the United States of America. He travelled from Los Angeles to Colorado and finally to Blue Valley, Nebraska.[4]
“ | Listen, buddy, take care of this car until we get back. It's special. Just like you. | ” |
He bought a house in West Farms and moved his family there, where they lived until one night in 2011 when Rex discovered that the Injustice Society was coming after them. While preparing to leave, he mailed his journal and other JSA files to Pat Dugan before saying goodbye to his son. He gave Rick a toy 1966 mustang, telling him to take care of it until he gets back as it is special just like him. Wendi's brother, Matt Harris, then arrived at the house believing that he would only be taking care of Rick for one night but was told that there was paperwork inside which said that Rick was his son, that the house is his and that there is a suitcase with $50,000 under the bed. Rex and Wendi then drove away into the forest, where they were killed in a car crash by Solomon Grundy.[1] Their deaths were widely believed to have been an accident until nine years later when Chuck discovered the truth.[2]
Legacy[edit source]
In 2018, Pat followed Rex's research to Blue Valley.[4] He eventually discovered that the Injustice Society was still active there and successfully fought and defeated them alongside Rick, who had become the new Hourman, and the new Justice Society.[5][6]
