Maybe it's my curse to leave one betrayal behind, only to find a greater one here amongst the stars.
    — Despero[src]

Despero is a banished Kalanorian from 2031 who time travelled to ten years in the past to prevent The Flash from destroying the Earth.

    Biography[edit | hide | hide all]

    Early Life[edit | hide]

Despero was born on the planet Kalanor[2] and eventually travelled to Earth at some point in his life.[1]

    Armageddon[edit | hide]

    Future[edit | hide]

In 2031, Despero witnessed an event known as Armageddon, during which The Flash supposedly destroyed the Earth. In order to stop this event from happening, he travelled back in time to 2021 to kill The Flash.[1]

    Initial Confrontation[edit | hide]

    Despero retreats from Central City

Upon arriving in 2021, he interrupted Iris West-Allen's interview of Ray Palmer at the Central City Tech Convention in order to lure The Flash into a confrontation. The Flash arrived at the convention and attempted to create a vacuum around Despero, but this failed due to him being used to the pressure from living in other space, and as a result, The Flash was thrown out of a window. Once outside, he was joined by Atom, but despite this additional help, the pair were misled by Despero's illusions into attacking something which was not there. Despero then threw a taxi at the heroes but was unsuccessful in his attempt to kill them due to Atom's shrinking abilities. The Flash then attacked Despero with a speed mirage but was punched to the ground. He then asked what was meant by an earlier remark about him being "good once" which resulted in Despero showing him a vision of the future using his third eye. Once the vision had concluded, Despero attempted to kill The Flash but was prevented from doing so by Atom after he caused his belt to malfunction and to teleport him to an unknown location.

Despero later teleported to S.T.A.R. Labs in order to once again attempt to kill The Flash. However, he was impressed by his bravery in allowing him to read his mind and revealing his secret identity, and as a result gave him seven days to prove that he is not the man he believes him to be.[1]

    Prophecy[edit | hide]

    The Flash confronts Despero

While Despero monitored The Flash's actions, he appeared as hallucinations in his mind and discovered that The Flash was slowly losing his mind. Despero eventually made a move when The Flash was unaware of the death of Joe West, attacking Team Flash at the West House. Chester P. Runk and Allegra Garcia then surprised him and arrived at the residence with a series of gadgets, protecting The Flash long enough for his escape.[2]

    Finding The Flash[edit | hide]

Later. Despero remained angered at The Flash and continued to search for him, though silently monitored Team Flash and using them to locate The Flash. He then attacked S.T.A.R. Labs and turned on the particle accelerator, absorbing the power it provides to boost his abilities. Despero successfully located Team Flash using Cecile Horton and Rosa Dillon, demanding the location of The Flash after putting Dillon in comatose.[3]

Despero attacks the Hall of Justice

As soon as he arrived at the Hall of Justice, The Flash and Black Lightning attempted to battle Despero, though were overwhelmed by his superior physiology. Thankfully, Deon Owens arrived at the nick of time and sent The Flash to 2031 in order to investigate the reason of Armageddon.[3] In the end, Despero defeated Black Lightning and kidnapped Team Flash.[4]

    Timeline Change[edit | hide]

    Time Wave hits S.T.A.R. Labs

While Despero held Team Flash hostage and waited for The Flash, a Time Wave hit the facility and sent the team away. Despero was confused and was soon confronted by The Flash, who claimed that Armageddon was, in fact, caused by Eobard Thawne. Thawne created the Reverse Flashpoint in order to take away The Flash's reputation, with Armageddon serving as the reversal of the aberration. Despero searched The Flash's mind and believed he was telling the truth, though swore to continue to monitor him.[4]

    Being a Hero[edit | hide]

    Despero vs The Flash

Days later, Despero returned and hoped to kill Thawne as he was afraid that his survival could still lead to Armageddon. The Flash disagreed with Despero and enraged him, with him controlling the mind of Mia Queen against the team. Meanwhile, he fought The Flash on the streets of Central City, though successfully overwhelmed him and sent him back to S.T.A.R. Labs.[5]

Despero eventually began charging an explosion capable of destroying the city, hoping to kill Thawne alongside countless other people. The Flash then prepared the Particle Eradication Distributor to counteract Despero's Flame of Py'tar, depowering him and causing his body to catch up in flames.[5]
