This city is a lightning rod for insanity.
    — Captain Daisy Korber[src]

Central City is a city in Missouri and the home to the vigilante, The Flash.

    History

    Particle Accelerator Explosion

On December 11, 2013, the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator exploded and created Metahumans.[1] Ninth months later, Barry Allen woke up from a coma after being hit by lightning during the explosion. He then discovered his superhuman speed and became the local vigilante, The Flash.[2]

    Metapocalypse

In 2016, Zoom, a Metahuman created by Singularity a year prior, led his army into the city and invaded. The invasion was later averted by The Flash and his team of vigilantes.[3]

    Dominator Invasion

In late 2016, the city was again invaded, this time by aliens. However, they were later defeated by the heroes of Earth: including The Flash, Green Arrow of Star City, Supergirl of National City and the Legends of Tomorrow.[3][4]

    Speed Force Storm

In mid-2017, a Speed Force storm occurred and took The Flash away. During his return, a high amount of Dark Matter flooded onto a bus and transformed its passengers into Metahumans, including Ralph Dibny, later known as the Elongated Man.[5]

    Nazi Invasion

During Barry and Iris West-Allen's wedding, a group of time travelling Nazi clones attacked the heroes and invaded the city. Similar to the Dominator Invasion, they were defeated by the same group of heroes.[3]

    King Shark vs. Gorilla Grodd

In 2019, King Shark fought against Grodd on the streets.[6]

    Reign of Terror

Days prior to the Crisis, Bloodwork and his Blood Brothers infected countless people with Dark Matter-infused blood, controlling them like Zombies. The Flash was among those infected and was restored by his team, which was able to do the same on the residents. The Flash then defeated Bloodwork, sending him to A.R.G.U.S. custody.[7]

    Crisis on Infinite Earths

During the crisis, Central City was attacked by Shadow Demons along with Star City.[4]

    Mirror Monarch's Invasion

    Mirror Monarch vs. Team Flash

In May 2020, Mirror Monarch attacked the city and kidnapped dozens of people while replacing them with Reflections. With The Flash, Frost and Vibe back on the field, the invasion was prevented, and Mirror Monarch released the innocent people back to their homes.[8]

    Unforgiving Storm Ravages

Weeks later, the newly created Forces of Nature were wanted by the rogue Speed Force. As a result, a storm of pure energy was created above Central City and caused damage to the city, including a prison break at Iron Heights and individuals being injured by lightning strikes. The storm was eventually neutralized by The Flash while the Forces reformed and reunited, no longer posing as a threat to the city.[9]

    Godspeed War

While the storm disappeared, a group of Godspeed Clones arrived from the distant future in battle of another group for the life of a brain-damaged August Heart.[10] Their intervals between their violent attacks soon decreased rapidly despite the efforts of Team Flash and Spartan.[11] With the help of young speedsters from the future, XS and Impulse, alongside veteran vigilante Jay Garrick, the speedster family successfully defeated Godspeed and August Heart himself.[12][13]

Team Flash during Mirror Monarch's invasion
    • The Flash: After being struck by lightning during the particle accelerator explosion, Barry Allen gained superhuman speed through his connection to the Speed Force. Since then, Barry has served as Central City's defense to rogue Metahumans, such as Reverse-Flash, Zoom, Savitar, the Thinker, Cicada, Bloodwork, Mirror Monarch and Godspeed.
    • Vibe/Mecha-Vibe: During Zoom's attack, Cisco Ramon embraced his abilities as a Viber and created a series of technology to help him further understand them, eventually suiting as Vibe and defended Central City alongside The Flash. He later took the Metahuman Cure and returned to a more supporting role, while later returning as Mecha-Vibe during Mirror Monarch's invasion.
    • Kid Flash: Like Barry Allen, Wally West gained a connection to the Speed Force and operated as a vigilante in Central City. Wally later left Central City to further understand himself, joining the Legends of Tomorrow for a brief period of time.
    • Frost: Killer Frost was initially a criminal working alongside Savitar. However, she reformed and joined Team Flash, rebranding as Frost. She was later arrested for her previous crimes and incarcerated in Iron Heights Penitentiary before being released during The Unforgiving Storm.
    • Elongated Man: Gaining abilities from the Bus 405 incident, Ralph Dibny gained the ability of elasticity and donned the alter ego of Elongated Man. Unfortunately, he was severely injured when he attempted to destroy the terrorist organization Black Hole, leaving Central City with Sue Dearbon in order to destroy similar organizations across the world.
    • Accelerant: After Nash Wells' sacrifice, Allegra Garcia decided to join The Flash in the field using her electromagnetic abilities and Wells' advanced gadgets to assist the team.
    • Virtue: Gaining abilities during her pregnancy, the scope of Cecile Horton's empathic abilities soon advanced to telepathic and telekinetic ones, with her soon donning the moniker of Virtue.
    • Chillblaine: While initially an enemy of Team Flash, Mark Blaine soon stopped operating as a criminal and worked alongside Team Flash as a vigilante.
    • Atom: In the Reverse Flashpoint, Ryan Choi took the mantle of Atom from the deceased Ray Palmer.
