More metas are gonna be turning up everywhere now that the Particle Accelerator exploded.

The S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator Explosion was a technologically incident regarding the particle accelerator's activation. The explosion led to an excess amount of Dark Matter being released across Central City, mutating thousands into Metahumans. Among those victims were Barry Allen and Cisco Ramon, who later became The Flash and Vibe, protecting the city from other villainous Metahumans.

    History

    Background

After assassinating Nora Allen, Eobard Thawne was trapped in the 2000s with no means to return to his home period. He then moved up the time of the creation of The Flash as Harrison Wells, allowing himself to find a way to return home as soon as possible.[2]

    The Incident

On December 11, 2013, the particle accelerator was switched on and soon performing a mechanical error. Ronnie Raymond attempted to resolve the issue and was trapped in the pipeline, with the particle accelerator exploding moments later and supposedly killing him. Unbeknownst to Caitlin Snow and Cisco Ramon, Ronnie survived the explosion and became Firestorm, merging himself with Martin Stein.[3]

During the explosion, a high amount of Dark Matter was released across Central City, mutating thousands of individuals into Metahumans.[4]

    Aftermath

    The Flash of Central City

After the incident, S.T.A.R. Labs was operating with only three staff members, taking care of Barry Allen. Allen woke up nine months later after being trucked by a Dark Matter-charged lightning bolt, with him gaining a connection to the Speed Force and becoming The Flash with the help of S.T.A.R. Labs/Team Flash.[5]

Meanwhile, albeit the creation of Metahumans, the explosion also caused the death of multiple individuals, most notably Eva McCulloch. McCulloch was killed in her office before hitting the mirror in the same room. The death created the Mirrorverse and a Reflection of her was created as well, who attempted to escape for the later 6 years.[6][7]
