The Lantern[edit | hide]
“ | A little advice for out there in the world. Don't try so hard to be perfect. You don't have to be for people to like you. And it's a little annoying. | ” |
In May 2021, Hayden grew up and became an adult, with Mrs. Ordway telling her to leave politely. Six days later, Hayden broke into the Dugan Residence in search of the Starheart Lantern, an artifact used by her father as the Green Lantern before his death. Courtney Whitmore felt noises and held on to the Cosmic Staff. Slowly approaching the origins of the noise and found Hayden. They then fought each other using their respective artifacts, causing destruction into the house. As Whitmore asked her identity, she revealed herself as Green Lantern's daughter.[6]
Hayden and Whitmore were then confronted by the Dugan-Whitmore family. Hayden apologized and claimed that she did not mean to damage the residence. Dugan introduced himself, and she was excited to meet Stripesy, the teammate of her late father, the Green Lantern. He then offered to talk to her later and Barbara allowed her to sleep in Whitmore's room.[4]
Becoming Jade[edit | hide]
The following day, Hayden repaired the damage she caused and made breakfast for the family, annoying Whitmore as she was doubting Jennie's origins. She soon followed Dugan to the Pit Stop and was informed of the power ring's capabilities according to Dugan's vague memories. Hayden slowly attempted to create a projection and failed, only to succeed to create a green projection of Todd's toy car when Dugan told her to focus solely on the object.[4]
Later, Rick Tyler and Beth Chapel met Hayden and told her about the stories of the new Justice Society of America. She then met Yolanda Montez and performed her powers to the team. Whitmore soon talked to Dugan and returned to apologize to Hayden, not realizing that she was angry over people thinking she was perfect. She then knocked the lantern to the ground, causing it to lose stability.[4]
Tyler quickly activated his hourglass and brought the lantern to the park as Dugan arrived. Whitmore realized that Hayden could absorb the power of the device as she could activate the ring without charging from the lantern. Hayden attempted to absorb the energy as it exploded, causing her to unlock her true potential, flying in the air with joy.[4]
