- Supergirl: Kara Danvers revealed herself to the world after saving the Flight 237 from crashing into the city. She then followed her cousin, Superman's footsteps to become a vigilante operating in National City with the assistance of the DEO.
- Martian Manhunter: Initially hiding as Hank Henshaw, the director of the DEO, J'onn J'onzz revealed his identity as the last survivor of Mars and worked alongside Supergirl in order to protect the city.
- Mon-El: Mon-El crashed on Earth after fleeing from his planet's destruction, later becoming a vigilante and a member of the Super Friends. However, shortly following the Daxamite Invasion, Mon-El travelled to the future and founded the Legion of Super-Heroes.
- Guardian (James Olsen): James Olsen adopted the alter ego Guardian in order to protect his home city, serving as its first human vigilante and concealed his identity with a metal mask. Olsen was later deputized to the National City Police Department and soon departed National City to return to his childhood town, Calvintown.
- Brainiac-5: As a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes, Querl Dox followed Mon-El back to the 21st century and used his superior intellect to assist the Super Friends. Due to the defeat of Reign, Dox was forced to exchange his position of Winn Schott to ensure his survival from his cousin.
- Dreamer: Nia Nal is a Human-Naltorian hybrid, a merge of both worlds. Nia later discovered her abilities and worked alongside Supergirl and Brainiac-5 as the Dreamer.
- Sentinel: Despite serving as an agent (and later director) of the DEO, Alex Danvers chose to depart the organization after realizing Lex Luthor's corruption. She then used the alter ego of Sentinel and used Martian technology to aid her exceptional skills as a trained agent, protecting National City.
- Guardian (Kelly Olsen): Kelly Olsen took the mantle of Guardian from her brother and donned a golden costume. Kelly protected National City from unjust and injustice actions, ensuring the rights of those suppressed.

- ↑ In Marathon, the location of the city was shown on the world map with no labels of states. Later in I Am Legends, the same section of location was shown on the globe as California for a brief glimpse. However, it was shown that Central City and National City are a river apart in Crisis on Infinite Earths: Part Five.
