You're just the first of many. All the heroes of this Earth will be destroyed. And everything that remains will bow to me.
    — Magog to Wally West[src]

David Reid is a former scientist who became the criminal known as Magog.

    Biography[edit | hide | hide all]

    Early Life[edit | hide]

David Reid was once a well-respected scientist who believed that superheroes were a force for good in society, but his attitude quickly changed when they failed to save his family from dying in a house fire. Despite this tragedy, he attempted to move on and continue his work to provide bleeding-edge technology to his investors, but his hopes were soon dashed when his life's work was destroyed during an altercation between the Martian Manhunter and an unnamed villain.[1]

As a result of these incidents, Reid gave up on his ambition and vanished from the public eye, ultimately becoming an alcoholic. However, he soon found himself unable to avoid further interactions with superheroes after he witnessed The Flash being celebrated following yet another defeat of the Reverse-Flash. This finally caused him to snap and vow to break humanity's reliance on superheroes, creating a protective suit and a lance and adopting the codename of Magog.[1]

    Recruitment[edit | hide]

Deciding that he would need a team in order to defeat the superheroes of his planet, Magog opened a portal to Clayface's prison cell at Arkham Asylum and offered him a chance to get revenge on Batwoman, the hero responsible for his arrest. After accepting this invitation, Magog then created a portal for Freyr to escape through.[2] Some time later, Magog travelled to another universe to recruit an evil version of Superman, saving him from being vaporized by a wave of Antimatter during the Crisis.[3]

Following this, Magog recruited a pair of Necrians who believed they had been used and wrongly made to feel like heroes by the Legends during their interaction.[1] Finally, Magog travelled to Earth-2 in an attempt to recruit The Needle, even offering to restore his youth, but he was ultimately unsuccessful as The Needle believed that returning to a life of crime would violate his wife's memory. However, he did acquire a needle from the former villain during this exchange, which he subsequently used to create a subservient clone which possessed his powers.[4]

    Attack on Earth-Prime[edit | hide]

With his team now formed, Magog travelled to Qinghai Province in an early attempt to take out Wally West, though he managed to escape.[5] Meanwhile, he ordered his team to attack several key cities, including Star City, Coast City, and Gotham City.[1]

While his team was busy elsewhere, Magog travelled to Central City to finally fulfil his goal of proving that superheroes were unfit to protect the planet, arriving in front of XS and Impulse. Deciding that this was their opportunity to prove themselves to the Justice League, the pair attempted to defeat Magog on their own, but were quickly defeated. They were then interrupted by the arrival of Supergirl, who fought the villain while the pair went to S.T.A.R. Labs to discover more information about their opponent, eventually learning of his true identity with the help of Chester P. Runk.[1]

Some time later, XS and Impulse arrived back at the scene of the fight, soon witnessing the defeat of Supergirl and her being teleported away by an unknown force. Not believing that they could defeat Magog on their own, the pair travelled to the Kent Farm in an attempt to get the aid of Clark Kent, but they were convinced that they could if they believed in themselves. Arriving back in Central City, the pair fought Magog once again, performing well enough to result in him teleporting the rest of his team to their location. Undeterred, the pair stated that they were ready to save the world on their own, unknowingly convincing The Spectre to teleport a group of superheroes to their location. As a battle began to ensue, Runk contacted XS and Impulse to inform them that Magog's powers were derived from his lance. This gave them the idea to destroy the weapon, resulting in the defeat and subsequent arrest of the villain.[1]
