The Gotham City Police Department (GCPD) is the principal law enforcement agency of Gotham City, United States.

The Gotham City Police Department has been protecting Gotham City since 1820 and became its principal law enforcement agency. However, many of their employees are either corrupt or overwhelmed, making the streets of Gotham to be filled with crimes and powered criminals running most of the illegal operations. The "plague" persisted until the rise of Batman, who single-handedly defended the city from those powered criminals and nearly rid the city of crime. After his disappearance, the city reverted to the home of criminals before another vigilante took on the role of guardian of the city.
