    Renee Montoya (Earth-Prime)

I love this city in my bones.
    — Renee Montoya[src]

Renee Montoya is the leader of the Rogues Unit and a former police detective of the Gotham City Police Department.

    Biography[edit | hide | hide all]

    Early Life[edit | hide]

At some point, Renee Montoya became a police officer of the GCPD before being transferred to the Rogues Unit in City Hall.[2]

    Poison[edit | hide]

In the early 2000s, Montoya studied criminal law at Gotham University and met Pamela Isley, a botany student, and fell in love with each other. However, their relationship was interrupted when Isley was experimented on by her classmate Marc Legrand. Isley was affected and gained exceptional powers, using it to punish anyone damaging the planet. Montoya soon graduated and became a police officer. Montoya and Isley grew further apart as the former assisted Batman against Isley. Eventually, Montoya asked Batman in early June 2011 to place Isley somewhere with no water or sunlight, protecting the world from Isley's dangerous abilities.[3]

Montoya was later promoted to detective and worked for 8 years until asking to transfer to the Rogues Unit in 2018.[4]

    Missing Trophies[edit | hide]

    Mad as a Hatter[edit | hide]

In 2021, Montoya was informed of a possible "copycat" Mad Hatter and investigated the crime scene. Her former colleague Kevin taunted her for trading her badge for a basement desk in Gotham City before she questioned the witnesses. Later, Montoya requested more support from Mayor Hartley and successfully forced her to increase the Rogues Unit's financing.[2]

During the second Mad Hatter's hostage situation in Gotham University Medical School, Alice was broken out of Arkham Asylum by Batwoman. Alice was soon brought back to incarceration and Montoya approached her to serve as a consultant to the Rogues Unit, while Alice revealed the identity of Batwoman to Montoya. Using the information, Montoya successfully convinced Wilder to join the Rogues Unit with Alice providing crucial information to tracking down Batman's missing trophies.[2]

    Rampaging Reptile[edit | hide]

While the mayor's office approved Montoya's method of tracking down the trophies, Alice was freed from Arkham Asylum and was issued a Ankle Tracking Bracelet. The responsibility of watching over the murderous criminal eventually fell to Ryan Wilder, whose soon found the leads of one of the trophies, Killer Croc's tooth. Montoya also reminded that if Alice escapes, Wilder will be arrested for vigilantism.[5]

After the apprehension of Killer Croc 2.0, Montoya led the police department and the medic to East River Park. She initially questioned the presence of Alice and later realized she was in the Batmobile with the bracelet severely damaged.[5]

Returning to the City Hall, Montoya and her colleagues inspected the Poison Ivy vines and bravely poured water in the container. However, not reaction occurred and she discovered that it was merely a replica, claiming she had encountered the real vines in the past.[5]
