At some point, Edward Nigma became the criminal known as the Riddler and an enemy of Batman.[6] He was later incarcerated in cell number 344 at Arkham Asylum.[4] When John Deegan opened the cell doors at the asylum, Nigma was among those that attempted to escape, though he was quickly returned to his cell by The Flash.[4] In 2019, Nigma was paid by Tommy Elliot to tell him Batman's secret identity, which he did in the form of a riddle.[7]
