The Doctor Mid-Nite Suits are a series of protective suits used by Charles McNider and later Beth Chapel as the vigilante, Doctor Mid-Nite.
History
Golden Age
When Charles McNider became the vigilante known as Doctor Mid-Nite, he began wearing a protective suit to conceal his identity. The suit was used until his supposed demise in the Battle of Los Angeles, where he was in face dragged to the Shadowlands by the Shade. The spare suit was then placed on display by Pat Dugan at the JSA headquarters, where it sat there for years alongside McNider's sidekick, Hootie.[1][2][3]
A New Generation
Ten years later, while Courtney Whitmore was brought to witness the legacy of the Justice Society of America, she stole multiple gadgets and suits from the building, including the Doctor Mid-Nite Suit, Hourman Suit, Wildcat Suit, Green Lantern Power Battery, and the Thunderbolt.[2]
Using the stolen gadgets, Whitmore attempted to reform the Justice Society, soon deciding upon Yolanda Montez to succeed Ted Grant as the new Wildcat. However, during their first mission, they made the mistake of addressing each others' real name, allowing the nearby Beth Chapel to realize their identities.[4] Chapel later went to the Whitmore/Dugan Residence and discovered McNider's goggles under Whitmore's bed, with her deciding to join the newly reformed Justice Society. Whitmore reluctantly accepted, and soon gave Chapel the suit to succeed McNider as the new Doctor Mid-Nite.[5][6]
Overview
Designs
The suit consists of a two-layer red leather shirt with pockets and brown belts. The pants of the suit are beige and also holds pockets for equipment. In order to conceal its users' identity, a green hooded mask covers the hair and the eyes of them, leaving their nose and mouth to the open while connecting to a green cape.
Functions
- Identity Concealment: The suit consists of a pair of advanced goggles that covers its users' eyes and the hooded mask covers part of their face.[1]
- Vision Enhancement: Despite appearing to be a regular pair of goggles, Doctor Mid-Nite goggles are advanced and designed with countless technology in order to enhance its users' vision as well as allow them to have access to Justice Society database.[5]
