    Early Life[edit | hide]

Evelyn Rhyme was born to Edward Nigma, also known as the Riddler.[5] At some point, Evelyn Rhyme graduated with a doctorate in criminal psychiatry from Paul Revere University. She later became a hypnotist under the name "Enigma" and was infamous among the criminal underworld of Gotham.[1]

    Working for Safiyah[edit | hide]

She was hired in the early 2000s by Safiyah Sohail, being tasked with wiping Ocean and Beth Kane's memories of each other as well as reprogramming her into her "Alice" personality.[4]

    False Face Society[edit | hide]

In 2021, Rhyme was hired by Black Mask to alter Kate Kane's memories, so she would forget who she really was. Roman also had her do research on every member of the Kane family as well as Mary Hamilton.[3]

At some point, she erased Julia Pennyworth's memories of her trips while searching for Kate Kane.

She was later hired by Crows Security as a member of the Snakebite Task Force.[1]

For six weeks, Rhyme forced therapy and hypnosis onto Kate, so she would forget her life and take on the personality of Roman's deceased daughter, Circe Sionis, to replace the dead woman. While Kate tried to resist while constantly reminding both herself and Enigma that she was "Kate Kane", Rhyme's hypnotic abilities proved too much for her.

Rhyme was called by Jacob Kane to answer some questions about Snakebite, she quickly deduced that he was taking the drug and said he would need her help. They talked about why Jacob was so addictive to the drug and Rhyme suggested that he move forward by fixing things with his only remaining daughter, Mary. Later she was questioned by Julia about her missing memories only for Rhyme to stab her with a syringe filled with a sedative and later hypnotized her to transfer to Berlin.

One day, Rhyme was meeting with a client only to find Alice had killed him. Rhyme assumed Alice wanted her memories back, but instead Alice wanted Rhyme to erase her memories of Kate. Alice took away Rhyme's cane and tied her hands with the client's tie, Rhyme asked Alice about her hallucinations and tried to reason with her. While Alice insisted Rhyme tried to warn her that since Kate has been in Alice's life since before they were born, it's much harder to erase her without damaging her mind. Alice began to threaten Rhyme, so she attempted to hypnotize Alice to make the visions vanish. After failing the first time, Rhyme tried to reason with Alice and why Ocean and Kate's memories are important to her but Alice refused. On the second try, Ocean burst in and confronted Alice, while the two fought Rhyme's cane landed not too far from her. She spoke a trigger word that paralyzed both the combatants, so Rhyme could escape from her bonds with her cane.

Eventually, Kate and Rhyme met with Roman, while he placed the death mask of Circe Sionis onto Kate's face, Rhyme told her that she would now forget her life and become Circe. Kate tried to resist but Rhyme grabbed her burned arms to silence her, with the loud banging of her cane, Kate was erased from her own mind with Circe's personality taking over.

    Death[edit | hide]

Not too long after, Rhyme was ambushed by Alice who had just figured out the truth of her sister's disappearance. Rhyme told her that she feared Roman and stayed quiet, while Alice asked for a way to get Kate's memory back. Rhyme told her that it wasn't simple compared to her memory loss with Ocean and that she would need a keep sake from Kate's life. Ocean later accompanied Alice while she questioned Enigma if the motorcycle keys would work. Rhyme told her it would, but she would need Kate's trigger word to fully restore her memory. Before she could say it, Ocean snapped her neck. Her body was later disposed of by Ocean.
