A blackout occurred on the East Coast.
History
Origin
At one point, after seducing Gertrude Vandeworth, an old heiress, Lex Luthor got out of jail. He then married her and got her mansion when she died. At another point, he stole a Kryptonian crystal from the Fortress of Solitude. During an experiment on Gertrude's train set in her mansion with the crystal, Lex Luthor triggered the blackout.
Occurrence
The uptown grid went dark at 12:36 and midtown 10 seconds before. It caused the near-crash of Boeing 777 until it was rescued by Superman.
Aftermath
Interested in the case, Lois Lane investigated the blackout which led her to the mansion.
