Background[edit | hide]
Assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand[edit | hide]
On June 28, 1914, the Black Hand plotted the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo. Three assassins attempted to murder Ferdinand on his vehicle, with the first's bomb being deflected by the vehicle when the driver accelerated and the second failing to throw his knife. Eventually, Gavrilo Princip decided to sit down in front of a restaurant and settled for a sandwich. However, Ferdinand's convoy mistook the directions after visiting the injured civilians in the failed first assassination and drove into the alleyway. Princip then saw the chance and shot Ferdinand twice, killing him.[1][2]
After the assassination, it sparked conflict between Serbia and Austria-Hungary. Eventually, the conflict led to a greater war, involving most of Earth's nation and countries forming opposing military alliances.[1]

Capture of Mametz[edit | hide]
On July 1, 1916, Gwyn Davies, Alun Thomas and countless other members of the 38th (Welsh) Infantry Division were stationed in Mametz Wood, France. Davies and Thomas were later tasked with delivering a message to a general, only to be ambushed by German forces. Thomas was then gunned down to death in front of Davies alongside countless other soldiers, guiding the latter for years to come.[3]
Aftermath[edit | hide]
Palmer Raids[edit | hide]
After the war, countless Americans were extremely afraid of communism. As a result, J. Edgar Hoover and the DOJ began the Palmer Raids, arresting thousands of immigrants, union workers, anything that smelled like organized labor.[4]

Over the latter decade, Gwyn Davies was guilted by the death of Alun Thomas and began working on a time machine to bring back his beloved.[5][6]
