    Nate Heywood (Earth-1: Pre-Crisis)/Android

Revision as of 17:08, 1 November 2022 by NickNickleby (talk | contribs) (Text replacement - "Nathaniel Heywood" to "Nate Heywood")

We have one job, and that's to protect the timeline. And kill anyone who messes with it. So, I guess we have two jobs.
    — Nate[src]

Nate, better known as Citizen Steel, is the robot replica of Nate Heywood. Nate initially served as a member of the "real" Legends of Tomorrow and was programmed to be the "muscle" of the team, trying to hunt down their android counterparts according to Gideon's orders. He was then revealed to the truth that his team was, in fact, the true android Legends, though continued to serve under Gideon as the Captain of the Waverider and the leader of the Legends.

After facing the true Legends in Sarajevo, Nate was stuck in the 1914 time loop, replacing Eobard Thawne's position as the guardian of the Fixed Point.

    Biography

    Creation

    The "real" Legends of Tomorrow

In hopes of creating a robot army against the Legends of Tomorrow, Gideon created a replica of Nate Heywood, alongside other Legends.[1]

    Strong as Steel

With no knowledge of his identity as a robot, Nate and the Legends traveled to Seattle and ambushed the "robot" Legends after they held a party. Nate then expressed frustration over his inability to kill them before they escaped on Gwyn Davies' time machine.[2]

Nate and the Legends abduct Ivan Kalashnik

Afterwards, the Android Legends returned to the Waverider and discovered that the Legends' actions in Chernobyl led to severe aberrations. Nate and the field team then abducted Ivan Kalashnik from his convoy. They threatened him and forced him to issue a broadcast to tell people not to panic over the upcoming Chernobyl Incident, as they are hoping to ensure the number of casualties remained the same as in the original timeline.[1]

Eventually, the Legends were able to fix the aberration and returned to the Waverider waiting to witness Sara's assassination of Irina Petrov. However, Nate was frustrated that he was unable to see the actual murder on the live video, though was unaware that Sara did not murder Petrov. Hours later, Sara held Doctor Sharpe with a knife and revealed that the Legends are in fact robots. Nate initially thought that it was merely a test and soon faced the facts. Unfortunately, Nate remained stubborn and continued to work for Gideon, replacing Sara as the captain of the Waverider.[1]

    Captain of the Waverider

As the captain, Nate's first mission was to lead the Legends to 1914 after detecting the assassination of Franz Ferdinand was prevented. They were then faced by countless time travelers who charged at the team. Nate and the Legends then massacred the group, only for the real Legends to step out and distract them. Nate and Sara pursued their human counterparts, though allowed them to escape as Gideon ordered.[3]

Nate and Sara soon pursued Eobard Thawne in a building, following Gideon's orders to kill all time travelers. Sara then murdered Thawne as she confused him with her human counterpart. With no way to escape, the real Legends offered to talk, though Nate did not listen to the real Sara's proposals and decided to attack them. He was unsuccessful while Gwyn Davies brought Sara to safety.[3]

    Nate confronts the Legends

In the end, Nate and Sara returned to the tavern and confronted the Legends before he was ordered to remove his CPU by an imposter Gideon. His CPU was then inserted back to his body with his human counterpart bragging about his supposed role as the guardian of the Fixed Point, making android Nate jealous and taking the Time Manipulator for himself. As a wormhole opened, Nate realized that he had made a mistake before being sucked into a time loop, replacing Thawne's position as the guardian of the 1914 Fixed Point.[3]

    Powers and Abilities

    Powers

    • Superhuman Durability: Aside from his natural durability as a robot, Nate's skin was created such that he possesses his human counterpart's organic steel skin without the need to physically transform. His skin was proven to be extremely effective against conventional and advanced firearms.[1][3]
    • Superhuman Strength: Nate was shown to have an exceptional strength, capable of easily lifting individuals with his bare hands and crushing a vehicle.[1]

    Abilities

    • Bilingualism: Nate seems to be proficient in speaking English and Russian.[1]
    • Marksmanship: Nate is skilled in using standard automatic firearms.[2]
    • Hand-to-Hand Combat: Presumably programmed in his hard drive, Nate was proven to be a skilled combatant, though usually overpower his opponents using his superhuman abilities.[1]

    Equipment

    Current Equipment

    • Citizen Steel Suit: As Citizen Steel, Nate wears a red and blue protective suit with a star emblem in the center.[1]
    • Time Manipulator: After taking over Eobard Thawne's position as guardian of a Fixed Point, Nate was given the Time Manipulator to pause time and allow him to complete his work without raising attention.[3]

    Appearances

    Notes

    • Unlike his human counterpart, Nate does not possess any historical knowledge, but rather simply served as the Legends' muscle. Other than the differences between their area of expertise, Nate seems to have longer facial hair and air hair, as well as a more muscular physiology while the real Nate does not.[1]
