It's Gotham that's sadistic, not me, and they say the best way to change the system is from within.
    — Black Mask to Batwoman[[Rule 1|[src]]]

Roman Sionis is the CEO of Janus Cosmetics, the leader of the False Face Society and the criminal known as Black Mask.

    Biography

    Early Life

At some point, Roman Sionis became the CEO of Janus Cosmetics and had a daughter who was apparently imprisoned by Crows Security and subsequently killed by Batwoman.

This led him to despise the Crows and anyone who wore the bat symbol, and he formed the False Face Society to hold those responsible for his daughter's death accountable.[2] However, Roman befriends Jacob Kane.[3]

    Rise of Snakebite

The False Face Society later came to the attention of the Crows through their sale of a drug named Snakebite which led to them discovering that they are led by Black Mask.[4]

    Fighting Batwoman

When the Commissioner was assassinated by his gang, Roman gave a speech on Gotham City News on behalf of his company. Later, he kidnapped Angelique Martin when she wanted to leave the gang. He then showed her a dead body of one of his gang members and threatened her not to leave. Hours later, Batwoman infiltrated his hideout and was defeated by his gang. He then killed one of the failed members of his gang in front of Batwoman, threatened to do the same on her. He then told her about how his daughter was killed by Batwoman and how it led to his hatred towards to the Crows as well as anyone who wears the Bat emblem. Sophie Moore then shot him and scared him away, allowing Batwoman to rescue Angelique from captive.[5]
