Your body is special, Cliff. It's infused with magical properties.
What the fuck are you saying?
You are one of a kind, and that simply isn't fair. A body like yours should belong to someone worthy, someone like me. Once I take it from you, I'll finally be able to take my revenge.

Robotman was a series of mystical robotic bodies built by Niles Caulder for Cliff Steele during his week for immortality and to outlive his daughter.

    History[edit | hide | hide all]

    Search for Immortality[edit | hide]

    Cliff Steele, Caulder's subject

Since the 1970s, Dr. Niles Caulder has been researching in the field of robotics, hoping to preserve his brain in order to company his immortal Dorothy Spinner. Caulder then found Cliff Steele, whose body was damaged beyond repair in a car crash and began experimenting on his brain, placing it in a humanoid robot-like body with mystical properties. The construction was ultimately completed in 1995, with Steele spending the next two decades staring at nothingness after being told that his daughter had died.[1]

    Decaying Body[edit | hide]

    Caulder spending his final days

In 2019, Caulder used his magic necklace that kept him alive to restore the Doom Patrol back to their original size.[2] As a result, Caulder's age began to catch up to him, slowly killing him in the process. Hoping to keep himself alive for his daughter, Caulder sent the Doom Patrol to acquire Continuim, albeit unsuccessful.[3] Caulder also briefly reconsidered his plans of creating a Robotman body for himself, and dubbed the project "Robotman 2.0".[4] Unfortunately, before he could complete his project, Caulder had already passed away during the battle against the Candlemaker.[5]

    Brains[edit | hide]

    Steele piloting Rog

Months later, Steele's robotic body became a point of interest in the Brain, who hoped to acquire his body and place his brain within. With the help of Monsieur Mallah, the Brain successfully transferred his brain into the machine, while Steele's brain was preserved in a jar and disposed of. Fortunately, Laura De Mille was able to keep it intact and install it onto Rog, a gigantic robot formerly used by the Brotherhood of Evil. The Robotman body was later retaken when the Brain was killed by Rita Far, though certain parts were still missing and further repairs were required before Steele could be reinstalled.[6][7]

Upgraded by the Stones[edit | hide]

    New arm

Throughout the next three months, the Robotman body was under repairs in the hands of Silas and Vic Stone. They were able to purchase nanotechnology that could replicate the sense of touch, allowing Steele to feel once more.[8]

    Overview[edit | hide]

    Functions[edit | hide]

    • Advanced Durability: The Robotman is made of metal, protecting Steele's brain from attacks. However, the metal created by Silver Tongue seems to be able to damage the armor.[1]
    • Disease Immunity: Without flesh and body cells like a normal human, Steele is immune to infectious diseases.[1]
    • Enhanced Stamina: Placed in the Robotman, Steele does not require food or water other than the nutrients supplied by the armor itself.[1]
    • Enhanced Strength: The Robotman has the ability of tremendous strength, capable of sending an average human flying.[1]
    • Microscopic Vision: Steele's visual sensors are able to zoom in on specific items, allowing him to see different objects at a long distance.[1]
    • Oxygen Independence: Steele was shown to be able to survive in space with no air.[9]
    • Sense of Touch: After his body was destroyed, Silas and Vic Stone created a replacement hand for Steele's missing one. The new hand is installed with nanites, which gave him the sense of touch after years of not being able to feel at all.[8]

    Weaknesses[edit | hide]

    • Reduced Speed: Steele's robotic body is made of metal, making him extremely heavy, causing him to walk slower than average humans.[1]
    • Vulnerability: Even though the robotic body is made of metal, the gaps and bolts between the armor pieces are still vulnerable to attacks of small creatures. Additionally, when the nutrition tank is compromised, it places Steele in a hallucinogenic state or even cause a stroke.[1]

    Former Weaknesses[edit | hide]

    • Loss of Senses: Due to a lack of sensory neurons on his robotic body, he is unable to have senses with the exception of sight and hearing, which were artificially installed by Niles Caulder on his body.[1]
