Utilized by Kryptonians[edit | hide]
At some point, the Phantom Zone was used by the Kryptonians as a prison for prisoners in the galaxy. It was then anchored by Alura Zor-El to the universe with only several methods to escape.[1] Phantoms, best known for their possession of countless individuals, were banished to the Phantom Zone by Kryptonians and were prevented from multiplying. They were able to retain their fear inducing powers and became exceptional prison guards.[2]
In between the late 1960s and early 2000s, Kara Zor-El was trapped in the Phantom Zone after her pod got knocked off course on the way to Earth after Krypton's destruction.[3][4][5] During the destruction, Zor-El was accidentally sent to the Phantom Zone when he saved the lives of countless residents on Argo City.[2]
Crisis on Infinite Earths[edit | hide]

During the Crisis, the Phantom Zone was fractured and countless versions of it from the Original Multiverse merged, making it a realm with infinite planes instead of a timeless void. This caused several prisoners in the realm, such as Nyxly, to regain their Pre-Crisis memories as flashes.[2]
Search for Supergirl[edit | hide]
![](http://static.miraheze.org/dcmultiversewiki/thumb/8/80/Phantom_Zone_002.png/250px-Phantom_Zone_002.png)
In 2020, Supergirl was sent to the Phantom Zone by Lex Luthor.[6] The Super Friends then attempted to search for Kara, only to fail due to the uncertainty of her location after the fracture of the Phantom Zone. During her residency in the Phantom Zone, Kara met Nyxly and worked together searching for Zor-El, who was kidnapped by scavengers. With Nyxly's Imp physiology, they were able to teleport within the Phantom Zone without "catching a ride" on a Phantom's back.[2] Later, the trio found the Anchor and found a way out using a Kryptonian Mirror. Despite their effort, they realized that Nyxly was responsible for the injury of Zor-El, causing Kara to leave her for dead in the exploding Anchor and bring Zor-El out of the building.[1]

Luckily, the Super Friends used Kara's DNA from 2009 and pinpointed her location. They then travelled to the Phantom Zone using Tower, eventually finding Kara and Zor-El after fighting their fears. However, unbeknownst to the team, Nyxly survived the explosion and grabbed Tower, escaping the Phantom Zone through a portal.[7]
Luthor brought the Phantoms from the Phantom Zone, intending to have them prey on everyone else's fears. However, the Superfriends and citizens stood firm, causing the Phantoms to turn against Lex and Nyxly, bringing them into the Phantom Zone to be locked away for all eternity.[8]
