Kent Nelson was the sorcerer known as Doctor Fate, an agent of the Lords of Order and a founding member of the Justice Society of America.

- Divine Empowerment: When wearing the Helmet of Fate, Nelson possessed a series of mystical abilities.[1]
- Electrokinesis: Nelson was able to summon lightning bolts from the sky and wield them to defend himself.[1]
- Energy Projection: Nelson was capable of projecting energy blasts from his hands and manipulate it against his opponents.[3]
- Energy Constructs: To constrain his opponents, Nelson had the ability to create chains and cuffs constructed from mystical energy, which could be then manipulated by Nelson to forcibly move the unwilling opponent across a certain area.[2]
- Illusion Projection: Nelson was able to project illusion of different forms to his opponents, either in the form of physical copies, a telepathic projection or merely a voice in one's mind.[2]
- Flight: Nelson had the ability to levitate in the air.[1]
- Forcefield Generation: To shield Amon Tomaz from an explosion, Nelson generated a forcefield.[2]
- Longevity: Nelson, while being at least a hundred years old, did not appear to be his age and remained physically healthy, even suitable to be active in the field.[2]
- Precognition: While performing an exorcism, Nelson was able to glimpse into the future and see Black Adam above the corpses of his Justice Society companions.[3]
- Resurrection: Despite his initial reluctance, Nelson later decided to resurrect Carrie, a teenager who unintentionally summoned a demon.[3]
- Superhuman Strength: Nelson was able to hold Black Adam down for him to perform an explosive spell.[2]
- Telepathy: Nelson had the ability to read into one's mind and allegedly "break" it.[2]
- Teleportation: Nelson teleported from the Hawk Cruiser to the ground during the conflict in Shiruta.[2]
