- Superman lifting a green car, a scene also first seen in "Pilot", is also reference to Actions Comics #1, Superman's first appearance in history.
- Jor-El's speech regarding Superman's powers is similar to what Jor-El of the DCEU said in Man of Steel.
- The scene where Superman changes his outfits in a phone booth is a direct reference to the exact actions Superman does in early comic strips.
- According to the film titles shown in Sequoia (Family Night Lights and Harry Potter), it is assumed that this episode takes place in 2004. With the later part of the flashback taking place in 2005, a year after Superman debuted in Metropolis.
