“ | And Larry gave Cliff the grand tour. Wheeling him around like a couple of pony kegs through this home, we'll come to know as... Doom Manor. | ” |
Doom Manor is a residence located in Covington, Ohio, under the ownership of the late Niles Caulder. In the 1950s, Caulder utilized the manor as the base of operations for his vigilante team, the Doom Patrol. Over the later 60 years, Caulder converted the manor as a sanctuary for Metahumans across the planet.
History
Doom Patrol
In the 1950s, Niles Caulder began leading the Doom Patrol and allowed them in the Doom Manor as a base of operations. However, after a failed attempt to defeat Mr. Nobody, the entire team suffered from a mental breakdown and their minds now live in a shared illusion created by Steve Dayton, with the exception of Rita Farr, who had yet to join the team.[1]
A Sanctuary
After the incident, Rita remained as a resident in the building and assisted Caulder in taking in unstable Metahumans, including Larry Trainor (1966), Crazy Jane (1978) and Cliff Steele (1988).[2]
Search for The Chief
In 2019, Mr. Nobody's campaign to seek revenge on Niles Caulder led to the latter's kidnapping. The residents of Doom Manor then united in search of Caulder with the assistance of Vic Stone.[3] Eventually, they were able to locate him and rescue him alongside his daughter, Dorothy Spinner, though they were all trapped in miniature size.[4]
The Candlemaker
While Mr. Nobody is trapped in a painting, the residents of Doom Manor faced a new threat, the Candlemaker, brought in by their latest resident. During the process of battling the Candlemaker, Caulder began slowly dying as a result of exchanging his longevity necklace for restoring the team's sizes[5] while the team was killed in the battle.[6] Thankfully, the team was brought back to life after Dorothy destroyed the Candlemaker once and for all.[7]
The Eternal Flagellation
After defeating the Candlemaker and Caulder's death, the manor fell into the ownership of Rita Farr, who was reluctant to lead the team. The team was soon encountered by Madame Rouge and Rita later travelled back to 1917.[8] With no leadership and the Sisterhood of Dada planning the Eternal Flagellation, the team fell under Rouge's leadership before they could face their past and finally unite as a superhero team.[9]
