The series was created by George W. Trendle and Fran Striker, with William Dozier serving as showrunner. The first and only season premiered on September 9, 1966 and concluded on March 17, 1967, ending the series with 26 episode after its cancellation, though the network continued to repeat airing the episodes until July 14, 1967.
Green Hornet and Kato both made brief appearances on Batman: Classic TV Series, with multiple references made throughout the run of the series. While Batman and Robin did not make physical appearances on The Green Hornet, though made appearances on a television screen. Eventually Green Hornet and Kato appeared in the two-part episodes "A Piece of the Action" and "Batman's Satisfaction", establishing both series to take place in the same universe. The universe remained Undesignated until the crossover event Crisis on Infinite Earths gave the designation "Earth-66".
