Colonel Richard "Rick" Rogers Flag Jr.[3] was an army specialist, expert in special ops and counter insurgency. In 2016, Flag was transferred to A.R.G.U.S. and led Task Force X, better known as the Suicide Squad.
Biography[edit source]
Early Life[edit source]
At some point, Rick Flag joined the army and rose to the rank of colonel. During the process, Flag befriends Robert DuBois, who he later recommended Amanda Waller to recruit to Task Force X.[1][2]
As a soldier, Flag became an expert in special ops and a counter insurgency expert. He was also trained to use any weapon in the US inventory and golfed with 3 handicaps.[1]
Midway City Mission[edit source]
Corto Maltese Mission[edit source]
Team 1 Ambush[edit source]
In 2021, Flag was tasked with bringing a team to Corto Maltese and storm the island. Flag was assigned to the first team that was merely intended as distractions after the laughter at Waller's choice of clothing.[4] Waller introduced Flag to Savant, and they travelled to the evacuation area where he proceeded the introduction process of the team members. On the ride, Flag reassured Blackguard that there was no need to panic over Weasel, who is relatively non-lethal.[2]
Upon dropping in the shores of Corto Maltese, Blackguard exposed their hiding location and started a battle between the army and the team. During the battle, Flag deployed T.D.K. and attempted to stop Mongal from bringing down a helicopter. However, both of their actions were ineffective, and the entire team was massacred on the beach. Flag then escaped to the forest, where he contacted Waller about the massacre and captured by the Freedom Fighters.[2]
The Search[edit source]
The second team consisting of Bloodsport, Peacemaker, Polka-Dot Man, Ratcatcher 2 and King Shark was then ordered to storm a camp where Flag was supposedly kept in. Flag then questioned their action and realized that they killed a group of innocent individuals. In order to complete their mission to destroy all traces of something known only as Project Starfish, Flag convinced Sol Soria to work with the task force for freeing Corto Malteseans.[2]
The group walked across the mountains to the town and briefly stopped as Cleo got tired and Polka's started glowing with polka-dots. They then arrived at an army facility where they met Milton, a driver for the Freedom Fighters. Flag started changing into civilian clothes in order to infiltrate La Gatita Amable, the gentlemen's club that Grieves often visits.[2]
As Grieves had yet to arrive, the team started ordering drinks and enjoyed themselves. They were then interrupted when Grieves entered the building, only to encounter another obstacle as the army arrived in search of Americans. Flag, DuBois and Smith acted as distractions for Polka and Cleo to take Grieves back to the bus, while the trio was immediately arrested. On the transport, the three of them agreed to attack and knocked the guards unconscious, allowing them to escape.[2]
They then discussed their next moves, changing their objective to rescue Harley Quinn, who Flag thought to have died on the beach.[2]
Operation Harley[edit source]
Still in their civilian outfits, Flag and DuBois infiltrated the building using a grapple hook. However, Harley appeared next to them, revealing that she had escaped by herself without assistance. The team then resumed their objective to infiltrate Jotunheim.[2]
Operation Jotunheim[edit source]
The team soon got into their respective suits, with the Thinker driving to Jotunheim and infiltrating the building. The team then stormed the building in the rain and was able to enter the lobby.[2]
Commanding the team, Flag, Cleo and Grieves searched for Project Starfish and discovered countless test subjects that were under the control of "Starro the Conqueror" for over 30 years. Grieves explained that it was not his fault for the deaths, and it was America astronauts who brought it to Earth.[2]
“ | Peacemaker, what a joke... | ” |
— Flag's last words[src]
|
Flag attempted to retrieve the hard disk consisting of the full information on Starro, claiming he joined the army to serve the country and not to be its puppets to cover up the country's involvement in the project. Smith entered the room, preventing Flag from doing so as it would cause an international incident. Flag and Smith dueled each other as the former took the upper hand. Unfortunately, Smith was able to get a piece of broken floor tile and stab Flag in the heart, killing him just for peace.[2]
