The Doctor Mid-Nite Suits are a series of protective suits used by Charles McNider and later Beth Chapel as the vigilante, Doctor Mid-Nite.
History[edit source]
Golden Age[edit source]
When Charles McNider became the vigilante known as Doctor Mid-Nite, he began wearing a protective suit to conceal his identity. The suit was used until his supposed demise in the Battle of Los Angeles, where he was in face dragged to the Shadowlands by the Shade. The spare suit was then placed on display by Pat Dugan at the JSA headquarters, where it sat there for years alongside McNider's sidekick, Hootie.[1][2][3]
A New Generation[edit source]
Ten years later, while Courtney Whitmore was brought to witness the legacy of the Justice Society of America, she stole multiple gadgets and suits from the building, including the Doctor Mid-Nite Suit, Hourman Suit, Wildcat Suit, Starheart Lantern, and the Thunderbolt.[2]
Using the stolen gadgets, Whitmore attempted to reform the Justice Society, soon deciding upon Yolanda Montez to succeed Ted Grant as the new Wildcat. However, during their first mission, they made the mistake of addressing each other's real name, allowing the nearby Beth Chapel to realize their identities.[4] Chapel later went to the Whitmore/Dugan Residence and discovered McNider's goggles under Whitmore's bed, with her deciding to join the newly reformed Justice Society. Whitmore reluctantly accepted, and soon gave Chapel the suit to succeed McNider as the new Doctor Mid-Nite.[5][6]
