Bane was a criminal and an enemy of Batman.

At some point, Bane began to use a chemical substance known as Venom, which enhanced his physiology to the point where he was bulletproof and had superhuman strength. He used these abilities to become an enemy of Batman before being defeated and locked in Arkham Asylum.[1]
His Venom was then stored in the Batcave until being stolen in 2021 by "Circe Sionis"[2] and given to Black Mask, who used it on Russell Tavaroff.[1]
