Jack Napier was a criminal crime lord active in the 1980s in Gotham City. After falling into a chemical tub in Axis Chemicals, he became the psychotic enemy of Batman as the Joker.

Crisis on Infinite Earths[edit source]
Through some unknown means, the Joker either did not die from his fall or was resurrected afterwards.[2] Prior to the Crisis, the Joker was captured by Batman.[3]
