    Gideon (Earth-1: Pre-Crisis)/Waverider

For other uses of Gideon, see Gideon (Disambiguation).

As powerful as you are, you're just a set of algorithms, a closed system. There's so much you can't understand. But you are a part of me because all of the clashing emotions, all the good moments, and the pain we survived despite ourselves, all of that helps us evolve. That's what the Legends are shown me. So we're going to coexist, but I'm steering the ship from now on.
    — Gideon to her algorithmic self[src]

Captain Gideon is the former artificial intelligence system of the Waverider and a member of the Legends of Tomorrow. After the destruction of the Waverider, Gideon was resurrected by Astra Logue and returned in a human body.

In an erased timeline where Mick, Ray and Nate were killed by Fairy Godmother, Gideon operates as Hard Drive of the S.O.S. while assassinating Magical Fugitives across the timeline. This timeline was later erased when Charlie intervened in the mission.

    Biography[edit | hide | hide all]

    Original Multiverse[edit | hide]

    Operating the Waverider[edit | hide]

For thirteen years, Gideon has been the A.I. system of the Waverider and made a close relationship with Captain Hunter. According to the both of them, Gideon is able to pilot the Waverider without the need of a crew.[10]

    Joining the Legends[edit | hide]

In 2016, Rip Hunter recruited eight men and women who are insignificant to the timeline as his team. Gideon joined the team and aided the group in order to travel across time to defeat Vandal Savage.[10]

    Near-Death Experience[edit | hide]

In order to kill Vandal Savage, Gideon and a part of the team went to 2021 when Savage is at his weakest. However, the meteor that dampens Savage's powers went critical which Firestorm's transmutation nor Atom's Shrink Ray can prevent it. Rip then chose to use the Waverider's tractor beam in order to bring the meteor to the Sun.[13]

Moments away from their death, Gideon waked the half conscious Hunter and told him that she does not want to die yet. Hunter then told Gideon to throw the meteor to the Sun seconds before their time jump back to twenty minutes ago. As the plan succeeded, Gideon landed the Waverider back to the roof in St. Roch and brought the team back to Star City 2016.[13]

    Slept for 75 Years[edit | hide]

After the Legends' mission in 1942 New York City caused the team to be time scattered and the ship suffering from critical damage. Hunter ordered Gideon to put Mick Rory in stasis while repairing the ship for seventy-five years. Gideon obeyed the rule and switched herself off until Oliver Queen and Nate Heywood found the Waverider under the ocean.[14]

Reuniting with the Legends[edit | hide]

Reactivated by the Legends, Gideon showed them the final message of Captain Hunter and helped the Legends on their further missions despite the lack of Rip.[14]

    Hunter's Return[edit | hide]

A few months later, Hunter was found in Hollywood as a film school student. He was later taken by the Legion of Doom and was brainwashed as one of their own.[15]

The Legends then took Hunter back, and he activated a self destruction command on Gideon which caused the vessel to crash. Gideon later offered to enter Hunter's mind in order to bring him back to the physical world after the crash. As Sara and Jax entered, they encountered Gideon in a human form. They worked together to fight evil versions of themselves and later convinced Hunter to return. Before he leaves, he shared a kiss with Gideon and exited his mind.[16]

Hours later, Hunter woke up and dressed up. He entered the bridge and talked to the Legends. He apologized for overriding her systems and she claimed she remembered the kiss, which she thought it was nice.[16]

    Zari Tomaz's Simulation[edit | hide]

When Zari Tomaz programmed a simulation to see if timeline alterations could result in good causes, she broke Gideon's system and fell into a sleep after trying to fix her. During her dream, Gideon told her that it was a simulation and the time loops she was experiencing is her own program. As she woke up, she asked Gideon with Gideon denying as it merely a dream.[17]

    New Multiverse[edit | hide]

    Early Life[edit | hide]

Gideon was created as the artificial intelligence system for the Timeship Waverider, the vehicle for Captain Rip Hunter of the Time Masters.[18]

    Legends of Tomorrow[edit | hide]

In 2015, Hunter recruited multiple individuals from the timeline and founded the Legends of Tomorrow. Gideon soon monitored the team and expressed her concerns over the team's instability to Hunter. However, Hunter installed a program for her to diverge her priority to protecting the Legends over safeguarding the timeline.[18]

After the Legends' first mission, Ray Palmer, Leonard Snart, Carter Hall and Sara Lance started an argument before Gideon threatened to open the airlock to eject them all to the Temporal Zone. The four soon obeyed Gideon and separated.[18]

For the later years, Gideon assisted the Legends in multiple journeys and missions across time. Gideon was also forced to witness the painful deaths of multiple Legends including Martin Stein, Behrad Tarazi and her first captain, Rip Hunter. All the tragedies were processed by Gideon's more analytic side in order for her to maintain peak performance.[18]

    Meet Your Fates[edit | hide]

    Glitching[edit | hide]

In 2020, Gideon suffered from a virus-like situation and spoke gibberish as well as not working well.[19] Later, Behrad and Nate fixed her and realized that the virus was instead a message from an erased timeline version of Zari.[20]
