    Cliff Steele (Earth-21: Post-Crisis)

I didn't think I'd ever be scared of death. Spent most of my life chasing it and then decades thinking about it and wishing for it. I mean, I've been dead two times over. Undead, too. But now it's scary.
    — Cliff Steele[src]

Clifford "Cliff" Steele[4] is a successful race car driver in the 1980s who was supposedly killed in a car incident. His brain was preserved by Niles Caulder and was placed in a robotic body with mystical properties, turning him into the Robotman.

Shocked by his change, Steele stood in his room in the Doom Manor for years until Crazy Jane's return. Steele eventually joined forces with other residents in the manor and formed a team against Mister Nobody. Over the course of the two years, Steele reconciled with his daughter and made up for his mistakes in the past.

Unfortunately, Steele began to show Parkinson's symptoms, though hiding his condition from the team and his family. He eventually realized he had made a mistake and began treating his disease. Before he could recover from it, Steele's body was taken by the Brain while he was placed in another. Although his body was destroyed, Steele settled in the gigantic replacement and continued his adventures with the team, now coined the Doom Patrol by himself.

    Powers[edit source]

    • Longevity: Like his teammates, Steele was given a piece of Immortus and subsequently gained the ability to survive for over decades without any signs of aging.[6]
    • Cyborg Physiology: After his car crash, Steele's brain was placed in a robotic body.[1]
      • Advanced Durability: The Robotman is made of metal, protecting Steele's brain from attacks. However, the metal created by Silver Tongue seems to be able to damage the armor.[1]
      • Disease Immunity: Without flesh and body cells like a normal human, Steele is immune to infectious diseases.[1]
      • Enhanced Stamina: Placed in the Robotman, Steele does not require food or water other than the nutrients supplied by the armor itself.[1]
      • Enhanced Strength: The Robotman has the ability of tremendous strength, capable of sending an average human flying.[1]
      • Microscopic Vision: Steele's visual sensors are able to zoom in on specific items, allowing him to see different objects at a long distance.[1]
      • Oxygen Independence: Steele was shown to be able to survive in space with no air.[7]
      • Sense of Touch: After his body was destroyed, Silas and Vic Stone created a replacement hand for Steele's missing one. The new hand is installed with nanites, which gave him the sense of touch after years of not being able to feel at all.[4]

    Abilities[edit source]

    • Dancing: Steele watched Flashdance for 87 times, having the knowledge on a variety of dancing styles.[1]
    • Hand-to-Hand Combat: Steele was shown to be able to fight multiple enemies using his robotic body.[5]
    • Bilingualism: Despite recovering from the zombie infection, Steele remain capable of understanding the zombie language.[8]

    Weaknesses[edit source]

    • Reduced Speed: Steele's robotic body is made of metal, making him extremely heavy, causing him to walk slower than average humans.[1]
    • Vulnerability: Even though the robotic body is made of metal, the gaps and bolts between the armor pieces are still vulnerable to attacks of small creatures. Additionally, when the nutrition tank is compromised, it places Steele in a hallucinogenic state or even cause a stroke.[1]
    • Brain Illness: After being unwaxed, Steele started losing control over his body despite having no mechanical errors in his body and often frozen in place, with his right hand shaking. The abnormal activities were later deduced as Parkinson's disease by his daughter.[9]

    Former Weaknesses[edit source]

    • Dissociative Memory: During the early days of being placed in the Robotman, Steele often sees visions of her daughter and flashbacks to his altered accident where he died during the race.[1]
I can't feel pain. No matter how hard I hit, where I hit, what I hit, I can't feel pain.
    — Steele to Chief[src]
    • Loss of Senses: Due to a lack of sensory neurons on his robotic body, he is unable to have senses with the exception of sight and hearing, which were artificially installed by Niles Caulder on his body.[1]
